Job Overview

  • Role: Referral Coordinator
  • Location: 874 Purchase Street, New Bedford, MA 02740
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
  • Compensation: $20.00 – $25.80 per hour
  • Employment Type: Full-time

Primary Responsibilities

  • Authorization Management: Obtain all Prior Authorizations (PA) and referral/order authorizations for appointments.
  • Referral Processing: Secure referrals to local hospitals and private physicians; manage referral/PT1 form duties as needed.
  • Patient Scheduling: Manage patient appointments, resolve scheduling issues, and ensure proactive communication via phone and mail.
  • Referral Closing: Proactively “close the loop” on all pending referrals.
  • Data Accuracy: Ensure all diagnostic imaging data and specialist appointment information is accurately sent to the appropriate offices.
  • Patient Advocacy: Serve as a patient advocate, defending their rights regarding care, knowledge, and privacy.

Eligibility Criteria

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following baseline requirements:

  • Education: A High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience: You should have 1-2 years of business/vocational training OR 3-5 years of equivalent professional experience.
  • Skills: You must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, along with a basic understanding of computer systems and the ability to type 45-55 words per minute.

We prioritize candidates who bring the following preferred qualifications:

  • Language Skills: Being bilingual or trilingual is highly preferred to serve our diverse community.
  • Medical Background: A solid understanding of medical terminology is essential, and prior experience with referrals and electronic health records (EHR) is strongly preferred.
